The BTMS library collection is designed to meet the curricular needs and interests of students in grades 6th-8th. Resources in the library represent a range of reading levels, interests, and views. The media specialist and media assistant will guide and assist students in finding books to match their reading level and interests. Parents should have conversations with their children about their preferences for choosing books that will match family values. Books that are considered Young Adult (suggested age range of 12-18) are marked with a YA tag.
Hours: 7:45-3:30
Before the morning bell: Students are allowed to come to the media center each morning before the bell to work on assignments, print assignments, look for books, play a board game, etc. Please understand that each student that enters must have a hall pass from their grade level hallway or a media center pass.
During the day: We love hosting students in the media center throughout the entire day! We operate on a flexible schedule to allow for students to accomplish school work or get resources. ELA teachers in grades 6th & 7th have a scheduled check-out every other week but students may come at anytime upon teacher approval. Students need to bring their agenda to the media center each time they come and must sign in upon entering. The media center is also available to be booked by classroom teachers, small groups or for collaboration with the Media Specialist.
Book Allowances:
Students in all grades may check-out a maximum of 3 books at a time.
Overdue, Lost or Damaged Books:
Books may be kept for a 21 days. After that time, students may renew books once within a week of the overdue date. If more time is needed, the student needs to bring the book back to the media center for another renewal. Please note that students will not be allowed to check-out any other books if a book is over one week overdue.
If a book is lost or damaged, students will be charged for the replacement of the book. We only order library-bound books which are processed through our vendors. A replacement book will not be accepted for library circulated items (replacements are accepted for assigned novel sets). Check payments should be made out to BTMS or pay exact cash (we cannot make change).
Printing:
Students should attempt to print assignments prior to coming to school. However, a black and white printer is available to print school assignments at all times during the day with a suggested donation of $.10 per page.
Makerspace:
Watch the video below to learn more about a Makerspace. We have one in the library for students with big ideas or that need supplies for projects.
